Envelope Collage Project 2017

Edinburgh Collage Collective (ECC) G.L.U.E - an international exhibition of ‘Mail Art’ collages collated from our successful open submission Envelope Project.

IIn early 2017 ECC issued a call for collages from artists and creatives around the world using the envelope as a basis for making work. Within a few weeks we’d received over 130 submissions from as far a eld as Australia, Canada, Los Angeles and Peru.

As the submissions rolled in we launched a social media campaign - #envelopeproject - to encourage a global audience to interact with our collective and the medium of
collage online. In June 2017 ECC presenting these works in an exhibition at The Tent Gallery in Edinburgh.

In the current social and political climate, we, as a collective, think it is more important than ever to forge international links with other artists. Our starting point is creating a dialog around the
medium of collage; its history as a process, its ability to inspire change and its continuing relevance in our digital age.

The internet has allowed us to create a network of like-minded creatives who share the same passion. Through these global
digital connections, we are able to curate this physical collection of works which would never have been exhibited together otherwise.

Artists were challenged to use the envelope as inspiration for a
collage. They chose to explore its language as an emblem of travel, communication and human connection in reaction to our global political climate.

With 60 artists in the exhibition, the works varied widely in style, process
size and application. What they share is a passion for collage and its ability to express something which transcends national boundaries and speaks of our shared humanity.

PRESS RELEASE JULY 2016
EDINBURGH’S NEWEST ARTIST COLLECTIVE TO HOST LIVE COLLAGE EVENT AT
ST MARGARET’S HOUSE THIS AUGUST.
AUGUST 9TH - 11TH 10am - 4pm
P.V. THURSDAY AUGUST 11TH 6-8PM
ST MARGARET’S HOUSE, GALLERY 2
Edinburgh Collage Collective (ECC) will be hosting a ‘Live Collage’ event over three days during August in
Gallery 2, St Margaret’s House Edinburgh.
The event will coincide with A-I-R 15/16 Exhibition and will see one of the large gallery walls develop into
an evolving collage over the course of the event, culminating in a reveal of the final work during the private view on Thursday 11th.
Using traditional ‘cut and paste’ collage techniques, members of ECC will actively begin to cover the wall in an evolving collage artwork. ECC encourages members of the public to participate in the event and we welcome people of all ages and abilities to join in! Local groups who support adults/children with specific learning needs or disabilities are particularly encouraged to come along and put their creative mark on this exciting project! The event will be supervised at all times by ECC members and all materials are provided.
 About Edinburgh Collage Collective
ECC is a non for profit Art Collective comprising of a group of collage artists that share a similar creative vision in their methods, materials and/or visual narratives.
The collective and its nine members are rapidly building an online presence through the website and social media channels which share the work of our artist members as well as encourage others to engage and participate in the work we produce.
Through the collective’s regular meetings, we actively collaborate on collage projects as well as discuss our plans for the future of the collective and how to achieve our collective aims. Our aim as a small artist run collective is to actively encourage a dialogue around ‘contemporary collage’ and the benefits that socially engaged practice can have on the local community.
As well as organising ECC members exhibitions, site- specific projects and events, we are also committed to organising community events which allow for collaboration between ECC members and the general public. Our aim is for these events to reach out to a diverse section of the public, including disadvantaged groups and Edinburgh-based charities and organisations.
